Zakrzówek is without a doubt the most beautiful and popular lake in Krakow — a former quarry filled with turquoise water and surrounded by limestone cliffs. On a sunny day, it’s hard to believe you’re still in the city. There are floating platforms for swimming, lifeguards, and plenty of spots to just relax and enjoy the view.

Don’t be surprised if there’s a line to enter the section of the lake with the pools. Here’s a local tip: if you walk past that line, you’ll find another entrance to a different part of the lake without the pool. It’s just as busy, but you skip the wait — and this is actually where most locals head on a sunny summer day in Krakow.

If you get tired of swimming or sunbathing, you can take a walk around the lake for some great views. And if you get hungry, there are a few food trucks and a cozy coffee shop nearby.

One of my favorite things to do anywhere, anytime, is watch the sunset. If you ask me where to watch the sunset in Krakow, this is it. Krakus Mound is a grassy hill on the edge of the city with 360° views. I like to bring a blanket, some snacks, and just sit there as the light changes. You can see the church towers glowing, the river winding through the city, and the sun dropping behind the skyline. The route is mostly flat, with a dedicated bike path almost all the way, though you might share some parts with pedestrians. Depending on where exactly you start in Krakow, it’s about 14 km one way. You’ll follow the river, pass some little villages, and finally reach the Benedictine monastery perched on a hill. We usually take a stroll around, check out the small museum, and grab a coffee at their café before heading back.
